Four groups of Architecture students at the University of Stuttgart
have developed products and prototypes for the relaxing nap, the so
called Power Napping. many studies show that a short rest during the
day improves productivity. Up to this point there have only been a few
firms that have integrated Power Napping into the course of a day.
Therefore, in the summer of 2004, the students of the University of
Stuttgart came up with a plans and designs for very promising nap objects.
The students are currently looking for a company to help with the development
and manufacture of their products.
Power-Napping
Numerous studies from renowned institutions like NASA and the Fraunhofer
Institute have realized the effectiveness of Power Napping. A NASA study
by Marc Rosenkind verifies that a short nap during noontime raises reaction
time by 16% and at the same time reduces the loss of concentration by 34%.
The creativity enhancing nap compensates the effects of the biorythmical midday
low and raises reaction, performance and concentration capabilities. Airlines and
other companies such as IBM have already begun their own studies on this topic.
In the city of Vechta (Niedersachsen, Germany) the municipal authority in cooperation
with AOK and the Frauenhofer institute have already introduced Power Napping with good
results: the 180 employees of the city are healthier, that is to say, they are absent
less and thus achieve more.

Project background
During the summersemester of 2004 the Institute for Living and Design
(Department of Architecture) at the University of Stuttgart announced
a studio. The goal was the planning and realization of innovative
products for Power Napping.
In cooperation with the Industry four groups of four to seven architecture
students each, have come up with different solutions and have develped
different prototypes. Among them are modular systems, pneumatic constructions
and interior arrangements. All of their projects were on display at this years
office furniture trade fair Orgatec in Cologne. This project was advised by
Dipl.-Ing. Arch. Siegfried Irion and M. Arch. Stefanie Eberding.
If You are interested in leasing one or more of our objects for a trade
